Wichita is built around a shape that is almost all straight lines pretending to be a curve. The tent at its center is drawn as a spray of ribs running to the ground, and it dominates a drawing that is otherwise squared off.

What is in the drawing

Two slabs cut with vertical zigzags open the left, standing beside a block whose top is notched square. The tent then takes the middle, a tall cone whose surface is drawn as a fan of straight ribs spreading from the peak all the way down to the base line. A slab under a flat cap stands to its right, raised on legs with clear space beneath it, and past that a low round pavilion sits on an arcade of small arches under a flat roof. The tallest block in the picture closes the right, stepped at the top and ruled with vertical bands.

Who buys it

Aviation families buy Wichita, usually to post to a relative in another state. The tent is the recognisable half and the tall block on the right is the half that says the city is still working. It suits an office wall.

Mug or canvas

The ratio is 1.974 to 1, under the mug band, and coverage is a light 0.052. Little ink over a short width is the easiest thing to reduce, which puts the 11oz firmly in play. The one caveat is the tent: its ribs converge at the peak, and that is where they merge first. If the tent is why you want it, 18 by 12 is enough.
