Trenton is drawn with more gaps than buildings. Things stand apart along the ground line rather than touching, and the capitol at the centre is the only shape that rises much.
What is in the drawing
A plain slab and a run of low blocks open the left, each separated from the next. The capitol takes the centre, a tiered dome narrowing in stages to a fine point over a wide low front. A hall with a small gabled cap follows, and a building with two pointed turrets closes the right, one turret at each end of a flat roof.
Who buys it
Trenton sells to people who work in the statehouse and to people who left for Philadelphia or New York and still say they are from here. It is a desk piece more often than a kitchen one.
Mug or canvas
At 2.756 to 1 this circles a mug easily. Ink of 0.047 is very light for a drawing with a dome in it, which happens because the spacing leaves so much of the frame blank. That blankness is the character of the thing, so it holds up at any size, and the 24 by 16 canvas suits it as well as the 30 by 20 does.
