Brussels opens on a cluster of spheres connected by straight rods, a shape that belongs to a molecule rather than a building, and closes on a colonnaded arch at the other end of the width.

What is in the drawing

The spheres come first, nine of them linked by rods into a leaning frame on a small base. Low blocks with peaked ends follow. A tower rises past them under a fine spire. A domed building sits at the centre, two small spires either side above an arched front. Heavy blocks stand beyond with a gothic gable wedged between them, and the arch closes the right on a run of columns.

Who buys it

This sells to people posted here for European institutions and to the enormous number who visited for a weekend. The spheres do the recognising, and almost nobody knows the arch.

Mug or canvas

Spheres at one end and columns at the other hold most of coverage 0.073, and the middle is comparatively bare. Shape 2.345, wrapped by ceramic, which turns those two ends away from each other. They read as the pair of bookends they are from 24 by 16.
