Grand Rapids is square almost everywhere, which is what makes the one curved thing in it work. A ribbed oval sits low in the middle distance surrounded by flat-topped slabs, and the eye goes straight to it.
What is in the drawing
Two tall slabs with slanted tops open the left, one scored down its face with a tight zigzag. A pointed spire follows. Then the oval: a rounded form ruled across with horizontal lines, sitting low and wide. A block with a zigzag runs beside it, then a tower with one rounded shoulder and the tallest plain slab in the drawing. A stepped block scored with zigzag follows, and a low slab with a cut corner closes the right.
