Manchester is mostly low and mostly square, and then one plain slab goes up on the right with nothing near its height. The drawing is the contrast between those two facts.
What is in the drawing
Stepped low blocks open the far left along the ground line. A tall slab with a narrow notch rises behind them, then shorter slabs stepping down. A small pointed cupola stands over a long low block through the middle. Past it a tower under a pointed spire, then a small gabled shape, and then the tallest slab of all, plain to the top. A slab and a flat block close the right.
Who buys it
This is a hometown piece, bought by people from the city and by people who left New Hampshire for work. There is a far more famous Manchester and the buyer will be asked about it, which is worth knowing before it is wrapped.
Mug or canvas
The proportion is 2.272 to 1, so the mug takes it round with a little to spare. Ink is 0.063 and it sits low, along the mill blocks, leaving the upper half of the frame largely empty. That empty upper half is what makes this one work on a wall: at 24 by 16 the tall slab has room above it rather than touching the edge.
