Des Moines puts its dome off to one side rather than in the middle, and fills the space that leaves with plain towers. The result is a drawing with its ornament gathered in one place and its height in another.
What is in the drawing
A small spired turret opens the left in front of two tall slabs. A low arched roof follows with a run of zigzag drawn under its span. The centre is a tower narrowing to a peaked crown with plain slabs beside it, and past those a small gabled tower stands in front of the capitol, whose drum carries a dome, a lantern and a fine finial above a low arcaded base. A pointed turret follows, and two tall slabs close the right.
Who buys it
Des Moines sells to people working in state government and to the insurance trade that fills the towers, so it moves as a retirement and a leaving gift more than as a souvenir. Every four years it also sells to people who spent a winter there and want proof.
