Evansville is arranged symmetrically around its courthouse. A dome and lantern stand in the middle with a matching peaked turret at each end of the building, and the rest of the drawing balances either side.
What is in the drawing
Two tall slabs open the left above a low arched front. A run of small pointed pinnacles follows, close together and level with one another. The courthouse takes the centre, dome and lantern under a fine finial with a turret standing at either end, all of it sitting on a long colonnade. A small gabled block closes the right.
Who buys it
This sells to river-city families and to people who moved downstate for work, and the courthouse is the shared landmark for both. It is bought framed more often than as a mug.
Mug or canvas
A frame of 2.670 to 1 wraps ceramic. Ink is 0.061, and the pinnacles and the colonnade take most of it between them. Both are repeated fine marks, which is the combination that suffers most at small sizes, so the 24 by 16 canvas is where this drawing starts showing what it contains.
