Salt Lake City opens on its two best-known buildings one after the other, which is unusual: most drawings here spread their landmarks out. Everything after the first third is plain by comparison.

What is in the drawing

The capitol comes first at the far left, a tiered dome on a drum standing over a long arcaded base with a run of small arches beneath it. Immediately beside it the temple rises, drawn as three pointed spires of unequal height over a tall gabled front. Past those the line runs through flat-topped slabs, one very tall, and a tower under an ogee cap. Blocks step down, a tower with a pointed crown follows, and a low slab closes the right.

Who buys it

Both the people who left and the far larger number who arrived recently buy this, usually for the two buildings at the left rather than for the skyline as a whole. New house, new job: those are the occasions it moves on.

Mug or canvas

Ink is 0.069 and the width 2.357 to 1, so a mug carries it round. Almost all the detail is in the first third: the arcade under the capitol is a row of small repeated arches, which is the pattern that fills in soonest. Because that detail is bunched rather than spread, print it at 24 by 16 or above and the arches stay open.
