Rockford is long and low, and its centrepiece is a piece of modern roof geometry rather than a tower. The shape at the middle is folded rather than curved or pitched, and it sits among buildings that are all much older than it.
What is in the drawing
A bridge on two round arches opens the far left, low across the water. A broad block follows carrying an onion-domed turret and a small spire on its roof, then a stepped block and a pointed spire standing alone. The center is the canopy, an angular folded form with its planes drawn as straight facets meeting at sharp edges, sitting over a low base. Past it a small gabled cluster, a church tower with a spire and a stepped gable step down, and a low dome closes the right.
Who buys it
Rockford sells almost entirely to people from it, which makes it a Christmas and a leaving gift rather than anything a visitor buys. The bridge and the canopy are the two shapes that get named when it is unwrapped.
Mug or canvas
Both numbers argue for a large print. The width is 2.875 to 1 and the ink 0.073, so there is a lot of drawing packed across a lot of length. 30 by 20 is the recommendation and the mug is the second choice rather than the first, though it does wrap completely with the join out of view.
