Seoul is bracketed by tiled roofs and filled with towers, and the drawing keeps the two apart rather than mixing them. The tallest thing in it tapers to a point instead of stopping flat.

What is in the drawing

Tiered palace roofs open the left, curving up at their eaves above a small pavilion. Office towers follow, one pointed at the top, then plain slabs. The mountain tower stands at the centre on a short lattice base. Two slim towers rise beyond it with tapering tops, and past them one tower narrows the whole way to a point. A pagoda steps down on the right and a wide palace gate with a double roof closes the line.

Who buys it

Korean-American households are the base here and buy it as a home city rather than a holiday. The exchange-student audience is real and separate, and both recognise the palace gate before they recognise any of the towers.

Mug or canvas

2.070 falls under the proportion a ceramic print wants, so it takes the height. Ink at 0.085 stops the eaves of the palace roofs closing into one solid shape. Those curved eaves are the thing a size has to hold, and they read as separate roofs from 24 by 16 on canvas.
