Cleveland is drawn as two halves that do not match. The left is old and turreted, the right is one enormous tower, and between them the waterfront opens out into a shape unlike anything else in this catalog.
What is in the drawing
A turreted building holds the far left, carrying a ribbed dome on a drum with pointed caps either side and a long arcade running beneath it. A low bridge crosses on two shallow arches, then a church stands with a spire and a smaller pinnacle beside it. The center rises into a tower drawn as two tall shafts pressed together and finished in twin points. Beside it, low against the water, a fanned structure spreads open like folded wings. The right end is the tallest: a tower climbing through banded tiers into a long tapering spire, with a plain slab closing the line.
Who buys it
Cleveland gets bought defensively, by people who are fond of the place and tired of hearing otherwise. The waterfront shape is the argument in one picture, which makes this a better gift than a generic city print for exactly that buyer.
Mug or canvas
At 1.67 to 1 it sits much closer to a 3:2 canvas than to the mug band, so the canvas fills properly while the mug shows it as a centred panel. Coverage is light, and the weight is stacked on the right where the banded tower stands. Large, that imbalance reads as deliberate composition. Small, the fanned waterfront shape is the first thing to lose definition, so go up a size if that is the part you want.
