Pottsville is drawn plain. Low roofs run the whole width at much the same height, and a single church spire goes up out of the middle of them.
What is in the drawing
Blocks with pitched and flat roofs fill the left, none of them tall and none decorated. The church stands at the centre over a gabled front and a long plain wall, its spire climbing far above every other roof in the picture. More low blocks step down past it, and a wide flat-roofed building closes the line without any flourish at all.
Who buys it
This is bought by people from the coal towns and by people who left them, and it carries a family association rather than a civic one. It sells at Christmas and hardly at all in summer.
Mug or canvas
Ink is 0.045, very light, because almost nothing here is drawn twice. The width runs 2.454 to 1 and a mug takes it round. Plain shapes and thin coverage reduce without trouble, so ceramic gives up nothing, and the 18 by 12 canvas already holds everything the drawing contains.
