Sioux Falls starts on its cathedral rather than working up to it. Two thin spires stand at the far left with almost no gap between them, and everything after that is lower until the tower past the center.

What is in the drawing

The twin spires open the left, drawn as two narrow tapers rising side by side from a low front. A broad building follows with a tall central shaft standing over a long arcaded base, and a low block scored with a zigzag runs beside it. The tallest tower arrives past the center, split into two points at the peak. A flat slab and a small crenellated block step down from it, then a stepped tower and a low block, and a long hall under a shallow curved roof closes the right.

Who buys it

Sioux Falls sells to people who live there and to the large number who have moved there in the last ten years, so it works as a housewarming piece. The cathedral is the recognised part, which means the left edge of the drawing matters more than usual and is worth keeping in view.

Mug or canvas

Worth knowing before choosing ceramic: at 2.459 to 1 the drawing goes fully round a mug, which puts the twin spires and the closing hall on opposite sides of the handle. If the cathedral is the point of the gift, canvas keeps it in one view, and 24 by 16 separates the two spires cleanly. Ink is a light 0.054.
