Valletta is drawn from the sea. A long low bastion wall runs almost the full width along the bottom of the picture, and the buildings sit on top of it rather than behind it.
What is in the drawing
A domed building opens the left, two small towers beside it above round arches. The wall begins there and carries on, low and flat, with a dome and a spire rising from the buildings along it. A small arched gate stands at the centre. A church follows with two tall pointed spires above arcading. The wall runs on to the right, a wavy line marking the water beneath it.
Who buys it
The buyers are people who stopped on a cruise and a large Maltese diaspora in Australia and Britain. The wall is what makes it read as Malta rather than anywhere else on the sea.
