Albuquerque is drawn with more curved and pointed roof shapes than any other southwestern city in this range. Almost nothing in it is finished with a flat top.

What is in the drawing

Two towers open the left under caps drawn as onions narrowing to a point, the nearer one standing on a tall plain shaft. A slim shaft rises behind them. The line then runs low across a group of boxes with small square feet before climbing to a pair of buildings at the center, one under a shallow pitched cap and one under a rounded dome, sitting side by side on a wide base. Past them a long arcade stretches out, its front drawn as five even round arches. The right side gathers a cluster of sharp pinnacles above a small gabled porch, then a plain slab, and closes on a tall tower with two separate peaks rising from one crown.

Who buys it

Albuquerque is bought by people who love the light there and cannot explain it to anybody who has not been. It sells as a moving-away piece far more than a holiday one, and the arches are the part buyers mention, because they are the detail that makes it look like nowhere else in the catalog.

Mug or canvas

The ratio here is 1.991 to 1, short of the mug band, so the drawing sits centred on a mug with white to either side and never wraps out of view. Coverage is a modest 0.073. The arcade is the size test: five arches drawn in thin line become a wavy band at 11oz and stay five arches from 24 by 16 upward. If the arches are the reason you like it, take the canvas.
