Melbourne finishes on a wheel whose rim is drawn as a ring of small loops rather than cabins, sitting over a triangular frame. The rest of the drawing is towers, domes and a thicket of gothic spikes.

What is in the drawing

Tall slabs open the left, one cut at an angle and carrying a thin spire. A low building follows under three onion domes above round arches. Blocks run through the middle, then a group bristling with narrow gothic spikes of uneven height. The wheel stands past them, loops all round its rim and a triangle beneath holding it up. A tall tapering shape closes the right.

Who buys it

Study brings people here and a great many never leave, so the market splits between residents and expatriates. The wheel and the domes get pointed at. The towers do not.

Mug or canvas

The frame is 2.054 to 1, under the 2.14 threshold, so ceramic centres this rather than wrapping it, which keeps the wheel and the spiked group side by side. Ink is 0.079, heavy, and those spikes and loops carry most of it. Both are fine repeated marks, so 30 by 20 on canvas is where the drawing shows what it actually contains.
