Concord spaces things out rather than stacking them. The drawing runs a long way sideways for its height, and every shape in it stands clear of its neighbours.
What is in the drawing
A low building with one arched opening starts the left. Behind it stand a plain slab and a tower capped with a point. A hall roofed in one shallow curve runs through the middle. Then the capitol: drum, dome, lantern and fine finial stacked in that order above a wide front. A slim spire rises past it, and a church with pinnacles along its roofline finishes the drawing.
Who buys it
Two audiences here barely overlap: the people who run the state, and the families whose towns surround it. More of these leave as retirement presents than as housewarming ones.
Mug or canvas
The numbers explain the airiness. Ink covers 0.057 of the frame across a shape measuring 3.063 to 1. Thin and long is the easiest combination to shrink, so ceramic costs this drawing almost nothing, and it goes right round a mug with the ends well apart.
