Oakland gets its own drawing rather than an afterthought behind San Francisco, and the artist has given it the two towers that actually identify it. They stand together at the right end like a pair.

What is in the drawing

The left starts on a cylinder under a domed cap with a ring collar below it, a shape that reads as a lighthouse from a distance. A plain block follows. Then a bridge crosses the middle distance, its cables drawn as a tight fan from a single point down to a deck, with a low span beneath. Behind that stands a tall slab with a rounded top and a long horizontal mark across it. A domed building sits low at the center under a pointed cap, its base scalloped. The right holds a slim tower with a pointed crown, and beyond it two tall towers rising to matching stepped pyramid tops.

Who buys it

Oakland buyers are specific about not being sold the other side of the bay, so this one is chosen deliberately rather than picked up. It sells as a hometown piece to people who stayed and as a corrective present to people who left, and the twin pyramids are what they check for before ordering.

Mug or canvas

The ratio is 2.229 to 1, a little past the mug band, so the wrap runs the full way round with the ends meeting out of sight. Coverage is 0.076, mid-table for the American set. The bridge cables are the fine work here, a fan of thin rays that merges into a solid wedge below about 15oz, so a canvas at 24 by 16 or larger is what keeps them as separate lines.
