Nairobi mixes two kinds of building that rarely share a skyline. The conference centre and the thatched roofs beside it are drawn at the same scale, which is what gives this one its character.
What is in the drawing
The conference centre opens on the left, a tall drum ribbed all the way up with a flat saucer resting on top. A pointed tower follows, then two plain slabs of different heights. A mosque sits at the centre, its facade notched along the top between two minarets under small domes. Past it two conical roofs stand low and round. A spired block and a broad flat-capped tower finish the right.
Who buys it
Safari trips route through here, and so does a good deal of aid and mission work. Both groups spent time in the city itself rather than only the airport, and the drum is what they remember of it.
Mug or canvas
Ratio 2.033 keeps it inside the band and the mug centres it. Coverage 0.135 is moderate. The ribbing on the drum is a stack of close horizontals and it is the first thing to merge, holding at 15oz but softening on an 11oz. On canvas it is clean from 18 by 12.
