Almost every state capitol in this catalog is a dome. Louisiana built a tower instead, and the drawing makes that the whole composition by putting it dead center and letting nothing else come close.
What is in the drawing
A slim spire opens at the far left above a low block with a rounded shoulder, both drawn small enough to set the scale for what follows. The capitol then climbs through the middle in a series of stepped shoulders, narrowing twice before it finishes under a pointed cap, and it stands so far above its neighbours that there is clear white space around its upper half. Ribbed slabs gather at its foot, cut with long vertical lines and squared off flat. To the right the line drops to a wide building fronted with a row of arches, and closes on a flat block sheltering under a projecting canopy.
Who buys it
Two buyers want this and they want it for opposite reasons. State workers and LSU families buy the capitol because they know the building from the inside. Everyone else buys it because it looks nothing like the capitol they expected. Either way the tower is doing the selling.
Mug or canvas
At 1.848 to 1 this sits well under the mug band, so it prints as a centred panel with clear ground either side rather than wrapping to meet itself. Coverage of 0.068 is on the heavy side, but it is concentrated low: the ribbed slabs carry most of the ink and the tower is mostly outline. That combination survives shrinking better than most, so the 11oz mug is a genuine option here.
