Madrid is the widest drawing in this group and it uses that width for a statue rather than a tower. The bear stands only a few strokes high and is still the thing people point at.
What is in the drawing
A long colonnade opens the line, pedimented at its centre and carried on a row of arches. The bear and the strawberry tree stand just past it, small and rounded against all that horizontal stone. A columned arch holds the middle, wide enough to be read as a gateway. Past it the line climbs a broad trapezoid with a flat cap, then finishes among squared blocks with a domed figure raised on the last of them.
Who buys it
The statue is a local shorthand, so this lands hardest with somebody who lived there rather than passed through. Students and exchange years account for a good share of that. Football is a separate audience the drawing does not serve.
