Anchorage is the plainest drawing in the catalog and it is plain on purpose. There is not one spire, dome, arch or curved roof anywhere in it, which is true of nothing else here.

What is in the drawing

The line starts on a low block with a small ellipse resting beside it on the ground, and from there it is rectangles. They step up and down in a long even run, some notched at a corner, some cut with a single slot, none of them ornamented. A plain slab lifts above the others just left of centre and a second matches it at the centre itself, and both simply stop flat. The right half repeats the pattern lower down, blocks squaring off against one another until a thin mast marks the far end.

Who buys it

Alaska sells to people who lived there for a while and left, which is a large group, and to families with somebody stationed north. They want the name and the fact of the place more than a landmark, and this drawing gives them exactly that.

Mug or canvas

This is wide and light at the same time, 2.851 to 1 with coverage of 0.047. On a mug it wraps right around and the join disappears, which suits a drawing with no single focal point to interrupt. Flat tops and straight edges also survive reduction better than fine detail does, so unusually there is no legibility argument here at all. Pick the size you want to look at.
