San Diego is drawn as two different centuries facing each other across the same line. The tiled towers and arcades take the outer thirds and the plain glass fills the space between them.
What is in the drawing
A low block and a wedge-topped tower start the left, and immediately below them a run of small sharp pinnacles crowds along the ground. From that thicket a tiered tower rises to a fine spire with a small dome at its shoulder, standing over an arcaded base. The middle belongs to the towers, four or five slabs pressed close with rounded and angled tops, and behind them the tallest shape in the picture, a shaft closed with a steep pointed crown. Next to it a broad building carries three tall arches beneath a flat roof turned up at its corners. The right closes on two onion domes on stepped drums, an arcade of arches running low between them.

Mug or canvas
This is one of the three most heavily inked drawings in the catalog and the density is all in the ornament: pinnacles, arcades, the tiered spire and the two domes, none of which is more than a few millimetres across on a mug. The plain towers in the middle hold up at any size. The Spanish work does not, and it is the better half of the drawing. If that is the part you like, this is a canvas rather than a mug.
