Palm Springs puts trees where every other drawing here puts buildings. A row of palms runs along the whole front of the picture, and the low blocks behind them are the background rather than the subject.
What is in the drawing
A ground line runs the full width, and along it stand the palms: thin trunks, each finished with a burst of straight fronds spreading from the top like a star. They are drawn at several heights and irregular spacing, some barely above the roofs and one or two well clear. Behind them low blocks step up and down with flat and stepped tops, taller through the middle, and the right closes on a long low mass of hillside lying flat against the base.
Who buys it
The buyers are people with a holiday association rather than a home one, and it sells through the winter. Mid-century architecture pulls in a separate crowd, after the town rather than the desert, and the palms serve both.
