Ottawa opens on gothic roofs, climbs to a single pointed tower, runs through plain modern slabs and then returns to gothic at the far right. The middle and the ends do not look like the same city.
What is in the drawing
Low gabled roofs with scalloped fronts fill the far left. The parliament tower rises among them, narrow and finished with a sharp point. Modern slabs follow, one carrying a wide drum on its roof, another notched deeply down its face. A domed rotunda sits past them with a smaller dome tucked beside it. A pavilion with a peaked roof runs low, and a cathedral with twin spires closes the right.
Who buys it
Civil servants, students and people who left after a posting make up the market. Framed rather than shelved, and graduation is when it moves.
Mug or canvas
Gothic detail sits at both ends of this drawing and the modern middle is nearly bare, which is why coverage stops at 0.071. Shape 2.464, wrapped by ceramic, so the two gothic ends end up apart, which is a shame given they rhyme. At 24 by 16 they meet.
