Frequently Asked Questions
What people ask before they order, answered here rather than spread across four pages. If yours is not below, write to us and we will answer it and add it.
Before you order
Is it really drawn in one line?
Yes. Each city is a single unbroken stroke that starts, runs through the skyline and finishes in the name, without the pen coming off the surface. That constraint is the whole idea, and it is why a building is suggested in three turns rather than drawn in thirty.
It also means a city you know well reads differently from ten feet away than from one foot. The shape arrives first and the buildings resolve afterwards.
What is the difference between the 11oz and the 15oz?
Height. The 15oz is a taller mug rather than a wider one, and the drawing is scaled to sit at the same visual height on both, so the two look like the same product in two sizes rather than two different prints.
Both are ceramic, both take the same finishes, and the 15oz costs a little more.
Which mug color should I pick?
White is the plain one and the line reads black on it. Black is the reverse, printed light on a dark glaze. The accent options keep the white body and put color on the handle and the inside, which is the version that shows across a room.
What you see on screen is a rendering of glazed ceramic under studio light. Glaze is glossy and a monitor is flat, so pick the one you want by name rather than by matching the picture to a paint chip.
What is the canvas like?
Matte canvas stretched over a wooden frame, arriving ready to hang with no glass in front of it. There is nothing to mount and nothing to catch the light from a window.
It comes unframed or in a black, white, natural or espresso frame, in four sizes. The drawing sits inset from the edge rather than running off it, because a single line that disappears round a corner stops being one line.
My city is not here. Can you draw it?
Ask. The catalog grows by request more than by plan, and a city somebody has actually asked for is a better candidate than one picked off a population list.
Delivery
How much is postage?
$7.99 per order, added at checkout and shown to you before you pay. It is charged once however much you buy, so a second mug ships free.
We charge it rather than burying it in the price because a mug is a low-priced object and postage on one is a real share of what it costs. Hiding that in the sticker price would mean everybody paying it twice over.
How long will it take to arrive?
Allow 5 to 15 business days from order to doorstep. Checkout shows you the same window before you pay.
Weekends and public holidays do not count toward the number.
Do you ship outside the United States?
No, and that is our decision rather than a limit on where a parcel could go. Real rates to Canada, Europe and Australia are two to three times the American one, and a single flat rate covering all of them would either lose money on every overseas order or overcharge every American one.
One market served properly beats four served badly. If you are elsewhere and want to be told when that changes, write and say where you are.
Will it arrive in time for a date?
Add two weeks to the top of the window and order by that date. Printing is the quick part. The carrier is the part nobody controls, so the safety margin belongs at the end rather than the start.
How do I track my order?
A receipt lands as soon as you pay, and a tracking link once the parcel leaves the print shop. First scans are slow. If the link still shows nothing two working days after you get it, write to us rather than waiting it out.
If something goes wrong
It arrived broken. What happens now?
Email us within 30 days of delivery with your order reference and a photo of the pieces. We run it again and post it free. Nothing has to come back, and there is no point posting a broken mug across the country.
Ceramic in transit breaks as a matter of course rather than as an accident, so a photograph and a reprint is the whole process and there is nothing to argue about in it.
The line sits slightly differently from the photo.
The drawings are a single hairline and the product photos are screen renderings of them. A line a millimeter or two from where the mockup showed it, or a black that reads warmer on ceramic than on your monitor, is normal printing tolerance and is not something we can reprint for.
Smudges, gaps in the line, a design printed crooked, and chips, cracks or a torn canvas are faults, and we replace those.
Can I cancel after ordering?
Only before it reaches the press, so write the same hour if you can. A mug that has been printed and fired is a mug with one buyer, and that buyer is you.
Looking after it
Is it dishwasher and microwave safe?
Both. The design goes into the glaze during production rather than onto the surface afterwards, which is why it does not peel and why a dishwasher does not lift it.
Wear that shows up after months of dishwasher use is ordinary use rather than a fault. A print that starts lifting in the first few washes is a fault, and we replace it.
How do I look after the canvas?
Dust it with a dry cloth and nothing else. No water, no cleaning spray, no glass cleaner. Matte canvas takes a mark from a wet cloth that it does not take from dust.
Keep it out of direct sun the way you would any print. Away from a south-facing window it will hold its black for years.
