The dome at the center of Chisinau is drawn resting on nothing but a row of thin arches. There is no solid wall beneath it, which makes the heaviest shape in the drawing look as though it is standing on a fence.
What is in the drawing
A cathedral opens the left, its dome finialled above a banded drum, a pedimented porch below and arches cut along its base. A belfry follows, tall and capped with a cone, an arch opened through its middle. A flat- roofed block runs past it with narrow windows. The center building is a wide dome, scalloped around its rim with a small lantern on top, standing on a row of tall thin arches. A slim tower comes next under a stepped spire. A front with a tall arched gable closes the right, a capped tower rising over it between two lower wings.
Mug or canvas
The ratio comes in at 2.326 where the mug band ends at 2.14, so the drawing is placed by its length and keeps clear space over the domes. Ink of 0.109 is on the heavy side, most of it in that arch row, and 30 by 20 is where the arches stay individual.
