San Marino climbs. The drawing steps upward from left to right through arcades and towers, and the ground line itself rises in stages near the end rather than staying flat.
What is in the drawing
Low blocks with pitched roofs open the left beside two thin towers. An arcaded building follows. A hall with a tiered roof and a small dome sits above round arches at the centre. A pedimented block runs past it. A figure stands on a plinth beyond that. Three towers with battlemented caps rise to the right, and stepped walls climb to small turrets at the edge.
Who buys it
This sells to people collecting small countries and to Italians who went up for the view. It is bought as a curiosity as much as a souvenir, which suits the small canvas.
