One shape governs Luanda: a tall narrow monument that widens sharply where it meets the ground, as though standing on a skirt. Nothing else in the drawing comes close to its height.
What is in the drawing
A colonial building opens the left, a dome with a small finial above two low wings arcaded along their fronts. Plain slabs follow, one notched deeply. The monument rises at the centre, its shaft split by fine vertical lines and its foot spreading wide across the ground line. Two towers with bulbous caps stand past it linked by a low curve, and a slab with a flagpole closes the right.
Who buys it
This sells to the oil and construction trades and to a large Portuguese-speaking diaspora, and the monument is what makes it recognisable to both. It moves as an office piece.
