St Petersburg draws its bridge open rather than closed. Two arms lift away from each other in the middle of the picture, leaving a gap where the deck should be, and no other drawing here does that.
What is in the drawing
Long arcaded buildings open the left with a dome set among them. A church follows, a tall tented spire ringed by onion domes above arched fronts. The bridge comes next, its two halves raised and leaning apart over low abutments. A cathedral closes the right, a dome with small onion turrets around it above two tiers of arcading.
Who buys it
This sells to people who took a cruise up the Baltic and to a long-established diaspora. The raised bridge is the detail people remember, because it happens at night in summer.
