Syracuse mixes its roof shapes more than most drawings here. Pointed, domed, gabled and flat all appear within a short stretch of each other, and no single one of them dominates.
What is in the drawing
Syracuse begins on a pointed spire set over a low block at the edge, a squat tower beside it under a gabled roof, and then a stepped crown on a taller shaft. Past a low block the tallest slab rises, notched down one side. A broad rounded dome sits low beside it, and a slab with a curved top and a small onion-domed pavilion follow. A low block, a tall slab, a thin spire and a jagged shape close the right.
Who buys it
Syracuse is a university piece and a hometown piece in roughly equal measure, and it sells through the winter more than the summer. Alumni tend to want the canvas and residents tend to want the mug.
