Chattanooga is drawn as two mismatched halves. Low, old and ornamented on one side, tall and plain on the other, with a single curved roof between them doing the work of a hinge.

What is in the drawing

A small flat block opens the left, with a low crenellated wall pierced by one round arch beside it. A slim tower rises past them under a bulbous cap with a needle above it. Then the roof: a wide shallow curve springing from the ground on both sides and spanning the middle distance with nothing under it drawn. Past that the line climbs into flat-topped slabs of increasing height, one of them notched at the crown, and the right closes on a slab with a rounded top.

Who buys it

Chattanooga sells to people who moved there in the last decade, and it is bought as a housewarming piece more than as a souvenir. The curved roof is the shape people recognise first, which is worth knowing because it is not a building most visitors could name.

Mug or canvas

The ink here is 0.062 and it is all on one side, piled into the crenellations and the cap while the right half stays nearly empty. A mug wrap actually suits that, because the busy end and the plain end never have to sit beside each other, and at 2.436 to 1 the drawing does wrap. For a print, 24 by 16 covers it.
